After having their Monday evening game with Vestavia Hill rained out, the Prattville Lady Lions varsity softball team was eager to get back on the field on Tuesday evening at home against Marbury. That eagerness turned into a 13-hit night for the Lady Lions and a 13-3 victory over the Bulldogs.

Prattville scored in all five innings, beginning with a four-run outburst in the bottom half of the first. The inning was highlighted by Kaelyn Campbell’s RBI double, which was followed by an RBI single from Pyper Castro and a run-scoring double from Jessie Adams. After Marbury was put down in order in the top of the second, Prattville got back on the board with two runs after Ty Wilson blasted a triple and Campbell crushed a two-run homer to center field.

The Lady Lions would add a single run in the third inning and then three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. With Wilson racing home after stealing third and scoring on an overthrow, the game was called due to the 10-run mercy rule. Wilson ended up with three hits on the night and was on base safely in all four at-bats. She also stole three bases. Campbell finished the night with three hits and three RBIs. Adams had a pair of hits, a sacrifice fly, and three RBIs.

Melissa Townsend gave up just two hits, struck out seven, and went the distance for the win. It was Townsend’s seventh victory of the season. The win upped Prattville’s record to 11-6-1.

In the JV game, Prattville earned a 2-0 victory over the Bulldogs. Jessica Cord scattered two hits and struck out 10 batters to earn the victory. Cord struck out the sides twice in the game. The JV squad earned its first run after receiving three walks and a bunt single. They scored their second run after Tyler Briscoe walked, followed by a Kadence Horton double and an RBI single from Sequoia Tucker.

Prattville’s varsity and JV teams will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Phenix City to face Central High School.
