Lady Lions Tame Wildcats 6-2

Contributed by Brian Schooley

The Prattville varsity softball team went on a road trip Tuesday evening to Enterprise for a key Area 3 match up and came away with a 6-2 victory. The win gives the Lady Lions a regular season sweep of its Area rival.

After both teams were scoreless in the first two innings, Prattville got on the board with four runs in the third inning and would never trail. They picked up another run in the fourth inning but left the bases loaded in the fifth. A solo run in the sixth provided some much-needed insurance, as Enterprise scored a run in both the sixth and seventh innings to keep the game interesting.

Kaelyn Campbell pitched a complete game to earn the win. She battled throughout the evening, scattering eleven hits and two walks. She also struck out nine and showed a determined, bend but not break attitude. Four times in the game, she pitched out of jams, leaving two Enterprise runners on base each time. The Wildcats stranded ten runners overall.

Offensively, the Lady Lions were led by catcher Aliyah Hamilton. She had three hits and three RBIs. Prattville pounded out fourteen hits, but they were also in stranding base runner’s mode, as they left eleven on base. Ty Wilson, Campbell, Gracie Pittman, and Jessie Adams each had two hits, while Melissa Townsend, Kensley Jarman, and Anna Schooley added singles. Pyper Castro also reached base safely two times.

With the win, Prattville improved its record to 16-9-1, and now sports a 3-0 record in Area 3 play. The Lady Lions will be back in action on Thursday, when they host Auburn. The JV game is currently scheduled for 4:30, followed by the varsity match up at 6:00.
