The Prattville varsity softball team earned another pivotal Area 3 match-up last night as they knocked off Jeff Davis 17-1 at Lagoon Park. The Lady Lions pounded out 18 hits en route to the victory and now sit at a perfect 5-0 in Area play.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Lady Lions posted five runs in the top of the second. After Kensley Jarman reached base on an error and Jessie Adams walked, Eavie Lou Polk drove them both home with a single. The hit parade continued with three more singles from Jordan Harlow, Ty Wilson, and Kaelyn Campbell. Aliyah Hamilton would add an RBI single in the inning.
The bats went silent over the next three innings as the Lady Lions went down in order in the third and fourth innings, and then stranded three runners in the fifth. Hamilton led off the fifth with a single, followed by a double from Pyper Castro. With two outs, Polk walked to load the bases, but a close play at second ended the inning. While Prattville was being held down, starting pitcher Campbell was doing the same to Jeff Davis. She teamed up with second baseman Anna Schooley for two outstanding plays, recording outs on Lady Vols’ bunts.
In the sixth inning, Prattville added two insurance runs. Wilson led off the inning with a single. She stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. The next pitch got past the catcher, and Wilson scored easily. After another hit from Hamilton, Castro drove her home with a single. The Lady Lions would strand three more runners when their half of the sixth ended.
The Lady Lions blew open the gates in the seventh inning as they scored ten runs with fifteen batters coming to the plate. The inning was highlighted by Campbell’s three-run homer and Gracie Pittman’s two doubles.
Wilson and Campbell led the offensive charge with four hits apiece, with Campbell tallying five RBIs. Wilson reached base safely five times in the game and scored four times. Hamilton and Castro each had three hits and Pittman had two.
Campbell earned her twelfth victory of the season. She pitched four innings and scattered two hits while striking out four Lady Vols. Maddie Ray Coker pitched three scoreless inning of relief and earned her third save of the season. After walking the first two batters she faced, Coker struck out the next eight batters in order and was helped by catcher Pittman who picked off a runner at first base.
Prattville improved its overall record to 25-12-1. They will compete this weekend in a tournament in Helena. The JV squad also pounded JD last night, 12-0, with Jessica Cord earning the victory.
